The Odd Dog Shop

Created by Leia Barrett

The Odd Dog celebrates those quirky rescue dogs who capture our hearts from the moment we see them. This 32-page illustrated, full color children's book is the story of a dog adjusting to living with a family for the first time.

Six Days Left for The Odd Dog!
5 months ago – Tue, Jun 11, 2024 at 06:16:21 AM

Greetings everyone! We are 92% funded with six days to go! This is definitely doable ($302 left to meet the goal) but I do have to warn you that funding is all or nothing on a campaign like this. That means that I lose all funds if I don't hit the goal by the deadline on June 17th

SOOOO...

If you're willing, it would be tremendously helpful if you'd share the campaign on Facebook. If you want to up your game, tagging a few friends with young kids and/or dog lovers can also help! They make it pretty easy to share. Simply click the 'Share' button in the top right corner of the main project screen, found here

You've done so much, and I'm so grateful. If you can help spread the word, I know we'll make it!

Sincerely grateful,

Leia

PS-- if you know someone who doesn't have children but they're interested in the project, suggest they pledge at the "Give the Odd Dog" level. I'll donate a book to a child in need with some nice extras that make it unique and special for them!

We've reached 50 backers-- AMAZING!

I'm so excited to announce that we've reached 50 backers! That means everyone wins. :)

I'm going to give everyone who has pledged so far an extra reward as my way of saying thanks.

Check out my newest poll to vote on what I should offer!

Thank you, as always, for your incredible support!

Sincerely,

Leia

We're ALMOST at 50 backers-- wow!
5 months ago – Tue, Jun 04, 2024 at 05:30:19 PM

Good evening everyone!

As always, I am so, so grateful for the incredible support received during this campaign. Friends, family, and well wishers have helped us get to 83.95% of our goal!

We are at 49 backers, something I wasn't sure I would achieve. To celebrate, I will be offering something special once we reach 50 backers. No, it won't be something special for the 50th backer, because what fun would that be? It'll be something special for all 50 of you who believed in this project.

To ensure we get there NOW, please consider sharing the campaign out if you haven't done so already. Even if you have-- most people need to see something a few times because.. well.. we're all super busy. :)

BTW-- if you have not done so yet, you REALLY need to check out The Oddest Dog Photo Contest. We have nearly 100 entries (!) and all of them are just amazing. The deadline to enter is June 7th, with the winner being announced on June 17th. There's a nice prize for the winner, including getting their dog illustrated into the book.

Before I sign off, thank you again for believing in me and this project. I am so touched you have taken a chance on an Odd Dog. I'll be showing you some of the early illustrations in the next few days, so stay tuned!

Oddest Dog Photo Contest!
5 months ago – Sun, May 26, 2024 at 10:39:28 AM

Greetings!

I want to thank all of you for believing in this project and for your support. We are THIS close to celebrating 75% funding, which is better than I could've hoped!

There is a definite lull in the 2nd and 3rd week of a campaign, both for the creator and for backers. To combat this, I'm pleased to announce The Oddest Dog Photo Contest!

This is meant to be a fun and easy contest that I hope will help raise awareness of the project. People can enter their oddest dog photos and get votes daily from friends and family. The winner will receive a $100 Chewy gift card and get their odd dog illustrated into the book.

I'm also making appointments with area rescues and shelters, encouraging them to submit photos as well. I'm providing them with a special frame that says their dog is adoptable in the hopes of raising awareness of their more quirky charges.

The contest is available at OddDogPhotoContest.com. You can enter your best shot before June 7th, with voting available until June 16th. I'll be announcing the winner on June 17th.

I hope you'll share this fun event with your favorite dog moms and dog dads. It only takes a minute to enter, and it will give the winner a memory of a lifetime!

Thank you for all of your support, and have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Happy National Rescue Dog Day!
5 months ago – Mon, May 20, 2024 at 11:51:07 AM

It's National Rescue Dog Day, and what makes it particularly special is that we are more than 50% funded after our first week! This could not have happened without all of you and your support, so THANK YOU!

I was inspired to create The Odd Dog by our rescue dog, Layla. While this isn't her story, per se, she was definitely a visual inspiration. I can see the resemblance-- can you?

Layla also has a bit of baggage like our main character. A year ago she 'door darted' from her foster (i.e. ran out the door) and survived in the 'wild' for eighteen days. Thankfully she was caught, but it was a story that kept her from being adopted again and again, in spite of a sweet personality.

When we adopted her, we knew it was up to us to ensure her safety, so we made sure she knew the neighborhood, keep an eye on her when she's outside at all times, and basically do everything we can to keep her safe.

Like so many of you, our dog is a member of our family, and we do our best to never take that for granted.

By pledging to this campaign, you are helping create a story that is the first chapter in our work advocating and fundraising for rescue dogs just like Layla. We're so grateful for you and your support!

Sincerely,

Leia

PS-- I'd love to hear your rescue stories! Reply in the comments in honor of National Rescue Dog Day!
